Next Meeting: March 17, 2010
Time: 1900hrs (7:00pm)
Location: Pres House, 3707 Elaine Drive, Bryan
In The News
Hope you all had fun in the snow on the 23rd; we got around
3” to 4” and was even enough to build a snow man. Lots of kids and even
adults took time off for a little harmless snow ball fighting, nothing like good
clean, healthy fun; wish it could have lasted a little longer, maybe next year
it will.
Spring is just about here and that means warmer weather,
longer days, and more time for fun at the air field. The weather has gotten a
little better, a few cold days last month, ok maybe just a little more than a
few days but they are getting better, I know because I am seeing more of you at
the fields lately. Soon we will be meeting at the air strip on Tabor instead of
the pres house our
Gander
Mountain
, great time to get some flying in before the meeting.
Topic’s At Our Last Meeting
First; we have selected all the days we will be having our fly-inns, they should
all be posted soon. We have back-up days for any meet that gets canceled for any
reason, these will only be posted incase of a re-schedule of that particular
meet.
Second; meeting time is being moved back to 7pm instead of 6:30pm, some of
you that got off late from work or have a ways to drive did not have enough time
to make it to the meeting on time so we moved it back to 7pm, the vote was
unanimous since it was a problem for a few members.
Third; mowing of the air fields, since spring is just about
here the fields are going to need to be mowed. If you would like to volunteer to
mow a particular field or even all of them; send an E-mail to the pres or vice
pres to put you down on the list. This will have to be done during the week
since we fly mostly on the weekends and do not want mowers going while we are
trying to fly, it kind of makes it hard to take off and land if you are in the
way.
News Coverage of Event
The pres has contacts at ABC 40 News here in
Bryan
and they have shown some interest in the club. We are working with them on a
time to have them come out and record us during one of our events which will be
shown on the news. It is possible other channels may come out as well; the
people at ABC 40 think it is a great ideal to maybe get more people out and join
in activities around the county.
Our safety Topic of the Month
We usually have information and safety topics about the hobby at the field but
we have not really had one for at home, and at home is where most of the
accidents happen, figures since that is where we are most of the time. So here
it goes…
When working on your models make sure you have good ventilation. Some of
these glues release toxic fumes that are very harmful to you and your family.
Keep all kids away from your work area unless you have plenty of ventilation. If
you are working with things that have moving parts that can cut or throw pieces
of the blade or what you are working on wear eye protection and of course keep
small children and pets away. If it is loud, use ear protection, better off
being cautious then cut up or deaf. Last, keep your work area clear and put
tools away that you are not currently using, lots of these are sharp and can cut
you or others easily if they get caught up in your work.
Closing
Our next meeting is on 3-17-10 at 7pm, well will be meeting
at the Pres house again, maybe by April the days will be long enough again to
meet at the Tabor field and get in a little flying before if you have time
before the meeting. Until then… Happy flying.
